Project College Events

This fall, our Class of 2025 Scholars had the opportunity to attend two different “Project College” events—the College Essay Writing Workshop and the Funding College Workshop—both intended to provide support for Scholars in preparing their college applications and considering their many collegiate options.

The College Essay Writing Workshop on September 24th was hosted by Jawann Pollard from the Office of Admissions at the University of Chicago. In this workshop, Scholars learned about the fundamentals of writing college application essays and then were able to offer peer reviews of each other’s essays to apply what they learned in the workshop. Afterward, 94% of surveyed Scholars would recommend peer reviews as a part of the college application process!

One Scholar shared: “I learned to write what colleges want to hear and not get sidetracked: have good tone and just be real.”

The Funding College Workshop on October 6th was hosted by Ezra Johnson from the Office of Admissions at Central Michigan University. Scholars were also able to hear from an admissions representative from Middlebury College, an institution that exemplifies some of the most generous financial aid practices. In a survey, 93% of Scholars would recommend or highly recommend this session!

De La Salle Scholar Event

During November, our De La Salle Scholars in grades 9–11 had a fantastic time building community while exploring their unique strengths and career dreams during our Scholar Support visit! They shared what makes them “Be You X 10” through group activities that brought out plenty of laughs, smiles, and creativity. From skits to songs, our Scholars celebrated their individuality and future goals, wrapping up with treats and some big plans for the future!

LINKOne

LINKOne is our new Peer Mentor program, where LINK junior and senior high school Scholars volunteer to mentor our incoming freshman Scholars. At our first LINKOne session in October, Peer Mentors and Mentees spent time getting to know each other, and our amazing Peer Mentors shared valuable insights and tips to help their Mentees succeed during their first year of high school!

Congrats to Addison Belhomme!

Huge congratulations to LINK Scholar Addison Belhomme on the premiere of her short film A Thin Line Between Black and White on Magic Johnson’s AspireTV!

Fright Fest

Our Fright Fest on October 30th was a spook-tacular success! From creative costumes to thrilling games to lots of candy (of course), our Scholars brought the energy and fun all night long. Thank you to everyone who joined us to make this event unforgettable. Until next year…stay spooky!

Angel Tree 2024

On December 7th, we teamed up with Paving The Way Project to bring holiday cheer to young people in need. Mentors and Mentees generously purchased gifts in advance, which were collected and distributed at the event. These gifts will be included in Paving The Way Project’s annual holiday toy drive, spreading joy to families this season.
