Saturday Academy Recap

Saturday Academy Recap
Scholars celebrated the last Saturday Academy of the 2024-25 school year on April 12 at Holy Trinity High School. The morning began with an extended Opening Collective in the auditorium to congratulate Scholars on their attendance, scholarships, and college acceptances. Scholars then transitioned to classrooms to present their Capstone projects!
Capstone project presentations showcased Scholar’s interests and goals in relation to the chosen prompt. Prompt options included:
- Self Exploration and Identity. Scholars had two options to choose from when completing this project: presenting their 4-year plan or presenting on who they are. This prompt is designed to promote understanding of self and planning ahead for what Scholars currently want for their futures, with the understanding that plans change and some adjustments are necessary along the way—but it all starts with a plan.
- Career Exploration. Each junior was tasked with either completing a job shadow or four informational interviews in order to create a short presentation on the career field they are learning more about.
- “Be the Change.” This prompt focuses Scholars on identifying their values, selecting a social justice issue/cause that they would like to address and coming up with a plan to do so.
Several Scholars reflected on their experiences:
Khloe Harmon
(Junior, Chicago Hope Academy)
Chloe’s Capstone project was about education and teaching pre-school to second grade. Participating in Saturday Academy has helped her gain more perspective about college and what to look out for. One of her favorite memories was Career Day. “We got to ask questions and connect with the career professionals afterward,” she said. For the future, she shared, “My goals are to see what schools are right for me and apply for more scholarships and internships.”
Christine Tally
(Senior, De La Salle Institute)
Christine’s Capstone project was about her three top colleges. She learned how to evaluate her choices and look more in depth into finances, location, and other factors. She said, “Saturday Academy has made me look at things in a different perspective. It made me consider my [college] options in a deeper way.” Sally’s favorite takeaway was working with Mrs. Jackson, as she felt like she was a good help in figuring out colleges. As far as next year—her first year of college—she said, “My goals are to stay focused, keep my GPA up, make more connections, explore my new city, and have fun.”
Aaden King
(Freshman, Marist High School)
Aaden’s Capstone project was his 4-year plan. He learned how to organize a presentation and took a lot of inspiration from other Capstone projects. “Saturday Academy has helped me communicate better with people and get out of my comfort zone,” he said. His favorite memory is of creating a magazine cover. For next school year, he said, “My goal is to become a better version of myself.”
