In Case You Missed It

An admissions representative from Brandeis University met with LINK Scholars on Tuesday, October 14, to share information about Brandeis as well as to support senior Scholars with writing their Personal Statement essays for college applications.
Pictured above are Mentor Nara Mahone (also a LINK alum) and her Mentee, Calvin Brooks Jr., who attended the workshop. Here’s what Nara had to say about the evening: “LINK provided an excellent writing workshop for our Scholars, focused on strategies for crafting strong college essays. The Brandeis representative offered valuable feedback on what college admissions officers look for, such as encouraging students to highlight their achievements and share unique, personal stories that set them apart from typical essays. They also provided important information about upcoming deadlines and emphasized the importance of making each essay authentic and reflective of the individual student.”

Scholar Herbert Moore (junior at Whitney Young) and Mentors Deja McClellan and Anthony Pilgrim enjoyed their first outing together on Saturday, November 8, at Mindworks, where they explored how data and human behavior intersect—and participated in some behavioral science research.
“I truly value any chance to connect with Herbert in person,” Deja said, “and Mindworks provided an excellent opportunity for that. The event featured enjoyable and engaging activities that allowed us to bond and learn more about each other as we strengthened our relationship. I want to express my gratitude to LINK for organizing this wonderful event!”
“Mindworks: The Science of Thinking” showcases the work and ideas of world-renowned scientists who help advance our collective understanding of the inner workings of human behavior—and how we can use that to improve our world. Free and open to the public, the center welcomes visitors to explore its interactive exhibits and museum atmosphere, take part in engaging, hands-on research studies, earn prizes for participating, and apply insights from behavioral science to help understand and improve their lives and communities.
